Pat Kenny

Biography

Pat Kenny is a broadcaster. Born in Dublin, he studied chemical engineering in UCD and worked as a lecturer in Bolton Street College of Technology before joining RTÉ as a part-time radio announcer in 1972. He presented ‘Today Tonight’ and won a Jacob’s award in 1986 for presenting three radio shows concurrently: ‘Saturday View’, ‘The Kenny Report’ and ‘The Outside Track’. Following the 1988 ‘Eurovision Song Contest’, which he co-hosted with Michelle Rocca, he presented a number of chat shows, including ‘Kenny Live’. He took over ‘The Late Late Show’ from Gay Byrne in 1999 and continued as host until 2009. His other RTÉ Television programmes included current affairs shows ‘The Frontline’ (2009 – 2012) and ‘Prime Time’ (2013). He presented the long-running ‘Today with Pat Kenny’ on radio from the 1970s until his departure from RTÉ in 2013, when he left the broadcaster after 41 years to join Newstalk .
