Biography

Ed O’Loughlin was born in Canada and grew up near Kildare Town. After college in Dublin he became a newspaper reporter and foreign correspondent, covering Africa and the Middle East for, among others, The Irish Times, Sydney Morning Herald, Age of Melbourne, and the Independent of London.
In 2009, having returned to Dublin, he published his first novel, Not Untrue and Not Unkind, which was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. His second novel, Toploader, a dark satire on Israel and the Gaza Strip, was published in 2011. Minds of Winter (2016), a multigenerational polar epic, was shortlisted for Canada’s Giller Prize and long listed for the Sir Walter Scott Prize for historical fiction. This was followed by This Eden (2021), a metaphysical thriller about money and technology, and The Last Good Funeral of the Year (2022), a memoir.
