Afonso Reis Cabral
Afonso Reis Cabral was born in 1990. At the age of 15, he published the poetry book Condensação. He holds a degree in Portuguese and Lusophone Studies, completed a master’s in the same field, and has a postgraduate qualification in Fiction Writing.
In 2014, he won the LeYa Prize with the novel O Meu Irmão. At the end of 2018, he published his second novel, Pão de Açúcar, which was highly praised by critics and won the José Saramago Literary Prize – Círculo de Leitores Foundation in 2019.
Between April and May 2019, he walked across Portugal along the 738.5 km of National Road 2, which resulted in the book Leva-me Contigo – Portugal a pé pela Estrada Nacional 2.
His works have been translated into several languages. He has contributed dozens of texts to a wide variety of publications. He is a columnist for Jornal de Notícias, where he writes a weekly column titled “Chronic Anxiety,” and he also takes part in the programme Cinco à Quinta on Antena 1.
He is president of the Eça de Queiroz Foundation and works as a freelance editor.
