Filipe Ribeiro de Meneses
Filipe Ribeiro de Meneses arrived in Ireland in 1988 to study history and philosophy at Trinity College Dublin and is now a professor of history at Maynooth University. He specialises in contemporary European and colonial history, with a particular interest in Portugal. He is the author of Salazar: A Political Biography, a second edition of which was recently published by Routledge, and other works covering Portugal's participation in the First World War and its colonial policies. He is currently involved in a project called Ireland Through Foreign Eyes, dedicated to the collection, translation and editing of foreign diplomatic documents about Ireland in the 1930s and 40s. He was elected to the Royal Irish Academy in 2017.
