Jana Bakunina

Jana Bakunina is a Russian-born author who lives and works in London.

She is the author of The Good Russian (The Bridge Street Press / Little, Brown, 2025), which gives an insight into the hearts and minds of ordinary people in Putin’s Russia today. It has been described as a “fine and brave book” by Luke Harding, “a work of honesty and humanity” by Mishal Hussein and as an “unflinchingly honest look at the choices facing Russians today amid autocracy and war” by Howard Amos.

Jana is also the author of a memoir Bird’s Milk (Matador, 2017) and of a collection of short stories, Stories by a Russian Londoner (Samizdat, 2024).

She has written for the Financial Times, The Standard and New Statesman.
