Maurice Casey

Maurice Casey is an Irish historian and Research Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast. Originally from Cahir, Co. Tipperary, he studied English and History at Trinity College Dublin before earning an MPhil in Modern European History from Cambridge University. In 2020, he completed his DPhil at Oxford University, where his research examined Irish women and radical internationalism between 1916 and 1939.

His work spans multiple fields, including the history of interwar radicalism, Irish history, queer history, and the social history of ideas. He is particularly interested in how early twentieth-century revolutionaries navigated the complexities of daily life, leading him to explore topics such as the anti-Nazi underground, Irish nationalism, the Comintern, and queer sexuality.

His first book, Hotel Lux, brings together these research interests and will be published by Footnote Press in August 2024.
