Sonia Terrab
Sonia Terrab is a Moroccan filmmaker and screenwriter, also known for her strong commitment to women’s rights. She has directed several impactful documentaries broadcast on 2M and Al Jazeera, immersing herself in complex social environments where she highlights the voices of women and young people.
In 2020, she was awarded the Simone de Beauvoir Prize for Women’s Freedom in recognition of the Moroccan Outlaws movement, which she co-founded with Leïla Slimani.
In 2024, she co-directed Résister pour la Paix with Hanna Assouline, a documentary co-produced by Public Sénat and France Télévisions, and selected at FIPADOC and the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF).
In 2025, she also completed her first fiction short film, Les Jardins du Paradis (“Gardens of Paradise”), co-produced by Iris Prod in Morocco and Cinenovo in France. The film had its world premiere in official competition at the Namur International Francophone Film Festival (FIFF), before being shown at the Tangier National Film Festival and Interfilm Berlin. Since then, it has been selected at more than fifteen international festivals.
Sonia is currently developing her first feature-length fiction film.
