Susana Cereja

Susana Cereja (Portugal, b. 1992) presents a multidisciplinary body of work that frees the Arraiolos stitch - an ancestral Portuguese tapestry technique dating back to the 16th century - from its traditional domestic space, elevating it to a monumental scale and asserting it within Contemporary Art.

With a background in Architecture and Fine Arts, the artist merges tapestry with other mediums, such as drawing, printmaking, and painting, alongside contemporary materials like LEDs and mirrors. Exploring themes of femininity, freedom, and memory, her international career includes participations in several European biennials. Recently, in 2025, her work was highlighted at the ARCO Lisboa art fair, through the creation of large-scale public artworks, and in co-creative community projects.
